Walking as Pilgrims of Hope online conference

Join the Walking as ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ online conference! Monday 20th May 2024, 12 noon to 5pm

This is to invite you to participate in an online conference to promote walking pilgrimage as an important part of the 2025 Jubilee in England & Wales with its motto ‘pilgrims of hope’. The event is organised with the support of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference Department of Evangelisation & Discipleship. The programme includes:

·      Explanation of why walking pilgrimage should be an integral part of the Jubilee

·      Inspiration for people (especially the young) to walk as Pilgrims of Hope

·      Tools to equip dioceses and other Catholic organisations to confidently plan and undertake walking pilgrimages, with a focus on youth engagement.

Programme and speakers

An onsite event will be held in London with experts in walking pilgrimage and youth engagement. You are welcome to participate online. The content of presentations will be used to create a resource on walking pilgrimage and the Jubilee. After the conference participants will be offered membership of an online group to provide pilgrimage organisers with mutual support, the facility to share resources and to solve problems together.

Cost

The costs of the conference have been generously covered by CCLA and the Sisters of the Holy Cross CIO, so the event is free to participants.

To register and for details of the programme visit: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/heartsinsearchofgodpilgrimwaysproject/1211845

I look forward to meeting you online on the day!

The Holywell Way is a Pilgrim Way for the Diocese of Wrexham from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Sorrows in Wrexham to the National Shrine of St Winefride at Holywell. St Winefride’s Well is believed to be the only British shrine that has a history of uninterrupted pilgrimage from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Way is north from the Cathedral to join the Wat's Dyke Way which then passes through a valley beside the River Alyn to the villages of Caergwrle and Hope. After 10 miles the Pilgrim Way diverges from the Wat's Dyke Way to visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Buckley, re-joining the Wat’s Dyke Way just over a mile after this. On leaving the village of Sychdyn the Wat's Dyke Way diverts from the line of the Dyke to take in a Celtic hill fort at Rhosesmor. The Pilgrim Way takes a more direct route, but the two paths coincide again shortly before crossing the A55 North Wales Expressway. After this the path follows an impressive section of the Dyke. The Way ends at the Shrine of St Winefride in Holywell, but pilgrims may wish to walk on to Basingwerk Abbey, the ruins of a C12 Cistercian monastery (1.0 miles). This is the start of the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way.
