Let us walk that we may adore

A walking pilgrimage for England & Wales to St George's Cathedral in Southwark, London

in the week before the Adoremus Eucharistic celebration on Saturday 10th October 2026

Ambulemus ut Adoremus: Let us walk that we may adore

At the Hearts in Search of God Spring Gathering on 21st March 2026 a proposal was made for a national walking pilgrimage in the week before the Adoremus Eucharistic Celebration on 10th October 2026. There will be four Ways starting at Marian shrines and converging at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St George in Southwark on Friday 9th October for shared prayer. The pilgrimage will embody the values of the Sisters of the Holy Cross of compassion, faith, prayer and community. A small group of perpetual pilgrims will walk the full distance, joined by day pilgrims who will register for each day.

The St Wilfrid's Way Camino

The annual St Wilfrid Camino will be held in the Diocese of Leeds over the weekend of 10th & 11th October, which is the nearest weekend to St Wilfrid's feast day. This will offer another walking pilgrimage opportunity in northern England. This two-day Camino is from Leeds Cathedral to the Church of St Wilfrid, Ripon.More details will be made available on the website of the Diocese of Leeds.

More about Adoremus

Adoremus is the name given to the National Eucharistic Congresses that periodically take place in England and Wales. In 2024, Adoremus took place at Oscott College amd in 2018 in Liverpool (see photo).

The Bishops of England & Wales have proposed that the next Adoremus celebration will take place in London on 10th & 11th October 2026. There will be celebrations at both Westminster Cathedral and St. George’s Cathedral, Southwark, with a Blessed Sacrament Procession taking place from one to the other. The liturgies in the cathedrals will be by ticket only but the procession will be open to all.

More details about events over the weekend will follow on the website of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England & Wales.

More about the Ways

The plan is for four Ways starting at the the Shrines of Our Lady of Caversham in Reading, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Bedford, Our Lady of Light in Clacton-on-Sea, and Our Lady of Consolation in West Grinstead. The Ways pass through the dioceses of Arundel & Brighton, Brentwood, Birmingham, Northampton, Southwark and Westminster. NB Planning is at an early stage and the routes may change.
